Labasa Scheme Review

The recently-completed Labasa Town Planning Scheme Review is part of the Department’s commitment to assisting local authorities to prepare and implement Town Planning Schemes for approved Town Planning Areas.

In 2003, the Department agreed to a request from Labasa Town Council to carry out the review and revision of the Labasa Town Planning Scheme prepared in 1984. This project was funded by the Council, but drew on the expertise of town planning staff in the Department. Preliminary research including land use surveys, consultation with stakeholders was undertaken in 2003/2004 and written up as a Report of Survey.
In 2005, a draft Scheme was prepared, which was presented to the Council and other key stakeholders. The draft was provisionally approved by the Director in October 2006, and made available for public review and comment as per the requirements of the Town Planning Act. The comments received during the public notification period were considered and necessary amendments to the draft Scheme carried out.

The revised Labasa Town Planning Scheme received Final Approval in May 2007.
