Projects

In addition to the day-to-day work of considering development applications and providing advice on town planning issues and processes, the Department of Town & Country Planning carries out special projects. This includes the review and development of policies and processes, and raising awareness about planning issues and requirements.

DTCP Quick Guides

DTCP Quick Guides are a series of brochures providing an introduction to key town planning matters. Designed for members of the public and for professionals who need to understand and engage with town planning matters, the Quick Guides set out to explain common planning processes and issues in plain language. Each DTCP Quick Guide addresses one topic.

Advisory Plan Program

Outside of cities and towns with approved Town Planning Schemes, decisions about development are made on a site-by-site basis, subject to the requirements of the Acts and to regulations set in the Town Planning Act General Provisions. In areas where significant development pressure is experienced or forecast, however, additional information is required to make informed, consistent and strategically-appropriate decisions. Local Area Advisory Plans are non-statutory documents prepared by the Department of Town & Country Planning to provide advice and guidance in relation to particular localities.

The Department has an ongoing program of Advisory Plan projects. Current projects are Navua, which is a fast-growing town not yet declared under the Local Government Act; and Meigunyah-Nasau, in the Nadi peri-urban area.
