There are two forms relevant to applying for planning permission: Approval of Plan of Subdivision form and Application for Development Permission. Different types of application require the completion and submission of different forms. An Approval of Plan of Subdivision form must be completed and properly lodged in relation to any proposed development that involves creating or re-defining allotments that are (or are intended to be) individually titled.

An Application for Development Permission form must be completed and properly lodged for any proposal involving construction or renovation, earthworks, removal of significant vegetation or a change of use of land or building. The same form is used for Detailed Development Applications and for Outline Development Applications. This form should also be used for any Rezoning application.

A proposed development that involves more than one type of development may require more than one form be submitted at once, or may require the submission of different applications in sequence. Information or clarification about the appropriate forms for a particular development can be sought from the Department of Town & Country Planning, or the responsible local authority.
